An essential oil obtained from the leaves is one of the source of 'Lemongrass Oil'. Some forms of the plant have a low content of citral in their essential oil and these are almost completely consumed locally. Other forms, such as the cultivar 'Praman', have been developed where the oil contains much higher levels of citral - up to 84% in the case of 'Praman'[
