Croton mauritianus is a shrub or small tree growing up to 5 metres tall. The bole can be up to 20cm in diameter[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local medicinal use.
The plant is commonly used as an ingredient of medicinal preparations, and is therefore becoming rare in the wild. It has a protected status in Réunion[].
