General Information

Citropsis gabunensis is an evergreen shrub or small tree growing from 1.5 - 6 metres tall[, ].
The edible fruit is gathered from the wild for local use.
There have been significant declines in the habitat of this species because of logging, mining and the commercial planting of exotics. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[].

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw[]. Delicious[]. The rather soft pulp is tender, juicy and of a very agreeable flavour. The yellow-orange, subglobose fruit is up to 20mm in diameter with a peel up to 2.5 mm. The fruit of the species is so full of seeds that there is little room for any flesh, but there is a form, which has been known as Citropsis gabunensis lacourtiana, which has few or no seeds[].
