Common Name:

General Information

Citharexylum myrianthum is a deciduous tree with an open, irregular crown; it can grow 8 - 20 metres tall. The slightly twisted bole can be 40 - 60cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for its wood, which is used locally. It is an excellent pioneer species for reforestation projects.

Propagation

Seed - it can be stored for more than 6 months, even in warm, humid rooms[]. Sow the seed in a lightly shaded position in a nursery seedbed or in individual containers. A germination rate in excess of 80% can be expected, with the seeds sprouting within 20 - 40 days. Transplant the nursery bed sown plants into individual containers when they are 4 - 6 months tall[]. Seedlings grow quickly and will be ready for planting out less than 4 months later[].
