This species is widespread and is common. It is, however, threatened by the loss of mangrove habitat throughout its range, primarily due to extraction and coastal development, and there has been an estimated 23% decline in mangrove area within its range in the 275 years from 1980 - 2007. The plant is currently classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[
