Apparently, fernambucensis was a mis-spelling when the plant name was first published. Some authorities, such as 'GRIN' and the 'Flora do Brasil', treat this mis-spelt name as the correct spelling whilst others, such as 'Missouri Botanical Gardens', correct it to pernambucensis[

Cereus fernambucensis is a succulent, evergreen cactus, usually growing in clumps with its stems creeping and sprawling. It can form clumps up to 40cm tall and 4 - 5 metres wide[
