This name is not universally accepted. We have followed the treatment in the 'World Checklist of Selected Plant Families', but the 2012 on-line Flora do Brasil treats this species as Eugenia acutata Miq.[].

General Information

Calycorectes acutatus is a semideciduous tree with a dense, pyramidal crown; it can grow 6 - 14 metres tall. The straight bole can be 20 - 35cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for its edible fruit and as a source of wood. An ornamental plant, it can be used in landscaping[].

The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, hard, with moderate mechanical properties and moderately durable. It is only used locally, being employed in general construction for purposes such as scantlings and laths; for light furniture, platforms, fence posts etc[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 14 - 20 days[].
