The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.
The plant's native habitat is under threat from habitat loss as a result of conversion of land for agriculture or firewood - the forests have become fragmented, experiencing a reduction of at least 30% over the last 30 years due to this human exploitation. The plant is fairly widespread and is not seen as being threatened at present, though the situation needs to be monitored. It is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[
