General Information

Amomum longiligulare is a robust perennial plant with leafy stems up to 250cm tall growing from a rhizome that creeps along the growund. The plant can form quite large clumps[, ].
The plant is harvested from the wild for medicinal use. It is sometimes cultivated, especially in Vietnam, and is sold in local markets[].
The main threats to this species come from deforestation and thus loss of habitat, plus the collecting of plants from the wild so that they can be cultivated. However, the plant is still common and widespread so it is currently classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[].
